PROCESS SAFETY SOLUTIONS

from JE OLSEN CONSULTING

Effective, Practical Process Safety Solutions . . .

Big picture thinking from the ground floor!

An effective and well-managed process safety management (PSM) program is essential to enhancing and ensuring process safety in operations. A high quality PSM program also leads to work and cost efficiency in your organization.

Jody Olsen has a wealth of knowledge and practical field based experience that she can share with your organization to help review, improve, and guide your PSM program to best industry practices.

SERVICES

MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE

Audit Compliance / Improve Effectiveness

Management of Change is widely recognized as a cornerstone of PSM.  In addition to assessing compliance, we conduct deep dives into the quality and effectiveness of Management of Change programs.  We will perform a "health check-up" of your MoC program.  We can propose improvements to existing programs or, where needed, design and assist in implementing new MoC programs.

PROCESS HAZARD ANALYSIS

PHA Facilitation, Training, Alternative Methods

We offer Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) facilitation using traditional HAZOP and LOPA, as well as other alternative methods and techniques.  We offer hazard identification and risk analysis for projects in a range of sizes.  We support 5-year PHA revalidation studies, new project PHA facilitation, as well as provide support for process hazard review of small changes, including MoCs of any size.

EVERGREEN PHA

Improve Quality / Reduce Costs

Assuring revalidation of plant PHAs on 5-year intervals is required by U.S. OSHA regulation.  However, your PHA should always be accurate and current.  The revalidation process can be streamlined, costs can be reduced, while quality and safety are improved by assuring that your PHA remains "evergreen."  After understanding your internal tools and systems, we can offer recommendations and support to "evergreen" your PHA process.

MEASURES AND METRICS

Measure and Improve Performance

The age old adage is:  If you don't measure it, you won't improve it.  But it is very important to choose the right measures.  Some metrics may actually drive the wrong practices.  Others don't represent a true picture of your process safety program.  We can review your practices and assess the impact of your measures.  And where needed, we can recommend measures that will better define the health and quality of your program and help to drive critical improvements.

FAILURE ANALYSIS

Understand Human Factors and Systemic Causes

We offer root cause analysis which focuses on understanding human factors and systemic causes.  We offer support on failure investigations associated with not only on incidents, but also “near-misses,” repeat failures, process upsets, and project failures.  The focus is on identifying systemic issues which lead to human error, proposing preferred practices, and implementing solutions.

TRAINING

Expert Guidance

We offer process safety training that may be catered to address specific needs and gaps within your organization including new employee training.  The training may encompass a broad overview of Process Safety Management (PSM), or address specific PSM elements including Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews, Process Safety Information Management, Root Cause Analysis, and more.
